Heart Attack

     Heart Attack:

When the flow of blood to the heart is severely reduced or blocked which lead to ischemia(low oxygen supply) results in heart attack

The blockage is usually cause by accumulation of fat, cholesterol and other substances in the heart (coronary) arteries.

The fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits are called plaques. The process of plaque forming is called atherosclerosis.

A plaque can rupture and form a clot that blocks blood flow. A lack of blood flow can damage or destroy part of the heart muscle.

Heart Attack is also called myocardial infarction.

Risk for heart attack:

Leading risk factors for heart disease and stroke are :

. High blood pressure (more than normal)

. High low-density lipoprotein (LDL)

. High cholesterol level

. Diabetes (High Sugar)

. Smoking and exposure to smoke

. Obesity,

. Unhealthy diet

. No physical activity also increase the risk.

      Symptoms:

Chest pain or discomfort.

Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center or left side of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes or that goes away and comes back. The discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain.

Feeling weak, light-headed, or faint.

Lower high blood pressure.

Be physically active every day.

Aim for a healthy weight.

Manage diabetes.

Reduce stress.

Management:

Aspirin. Aspirin reduces blood clotting. It helps keep blood moving through a narrowed artarter

.Clot busters (thrombolytic ) . drugs help to destroy blood clots that are blocking blood flow to the heart.

. A medicine called heparin may be given by IV or injection. Heparin inhibit clot formation.

. Nitroglycerin. A vasodilator drug which dilates the vessels of heart to flow the blood. Nitroglycerin is used to treat sudden chest pain (angina). It's given as a form of pill under the tongue, as a pill to swallow or as in form of Injection.
